Chicago is particularly well famous for its professional schools, which include the Pritzker School of Medicine, the Booth School of Business, the Law School, and the Divinity School.The university enrolls approximately 5,000 students in the College and about 15,000 students overall.
The scholars of University of Chicago has played a major role in developing various academic disciplines, including: the Chicago school of economics, the Chicago school of sociology, the law and economics movement in legal analysis, the Chicago school of literary criticism, the Chicago school of religion, the school of political science and in the physics leading to the world's first man-made, self-sustaining nuclear reaction.
Chicago's alumni include 89 Nobel Laureates,49 Rhodes Scholars, 9 Fields Medalists, 20 National Humanities Medalists and 13 billionaire graduates. Notable alumni include former Goldman Sachs and MF Global CEO Jon Corzine, scientist Carl Sagan, novelist Kurt Vonnegut and Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens. One of the school’s most celebrated traditions is a scavenger hunt in which student and faculty teams run around campus collecting eccentric objects, each with different point values to be assessed by a panel of judges at the end. The University of Chicago competes in NCAA Division III athletics and the school mascot is the Phoenix.
